2. Q: What kind of course can we choose? And what kind of materials do we need?
A: (1) Further Education Program: Application Form with your photo, final degree certificate or in-school certificate (Chinese or English)
(2) Undergraduate course: High school graduate or above, photo enrollment application form, Application Form with your photo, 2 pieces of final degree certificate or in-school certificate (Chinese or English, both the original one and the copy one)
(3) Master’s degree programs: bachelor’s degree or above, Application Form with your photo, 2 pieces of final degree certificate or in-school certificate (Chinese or English, both the original one and the copy one), new HSK transcript, resume, undergraduate’s transcript, graduation thesis, 2 recommendation letters, etc.
(4) Doctoral degree courses: master's degree or above, Application Form with your photo, 2 pieces of final degree certificate or in-school certificate (Chinese or English, both the original one and the copy one), new HSK transcript, resume, master’s transcript, graduation thesis, 2 recommendation letters, etc.
(5) Short-term courses: Application Form with your photo, final degree certificate or in-school certificate (Chinese or English).
P.S. students who are under the age of 18 need to submit the information of the guarantor in China and the Letter of Entrustment from Direct Relatives.
3. Q: Can I read undergraduate courses directly without a Chinese background?
A: Yes.
HLU offers undergraduates Chinese language courses. You can choose Chinese Language and Literature (four-year program) or International Economics and Trade (five-year program) as your major.
If you get more than 180 in HSK 5, you can study other undergraduate majors with Chinese students.

12. Q: Do I need to buy insurance when I enter school?
A: Yes. International students who want to study in HLU for more than half a year (including half a year) need to purchase comprehensive medical insurance on their own or with the help of HLU.
13. Q: Will HLU pick up us when we arrive? Is it free?
A: Yes. HLU provides free pick-up service during the fixed registration period.
14. Q: How many pictures do I need when I check in? The size of the photo?
Answer: It is recommended to prepare 10 recent passport size photos which are without any hats.
15. Q: Does the school handle the “Residence Permit” and visa extension?
A: At the beginning and end of each semester, HLU will conduct these affairs.
16. Q: Can you introduce some personal teacher to me? I want to do some intense training of Chinese.
A: Yes. It costs about 20-30 RMB per hour.
17. Q: Is there any place in the school to buy air tickets and train tickets?
A: Air ticket: It can be purchased through the General Service Desk of the International Student Apartment or the Administration of the International Student.
Train ticket: we have train tickets agency in campus, and you could buy tickets with your passport.
18. Q: Is there a supermarket near the school?
A: Yes. China Sun Supermarket is located on the first floor of HLU gym. It only takes five minutes’ walk. (Open from 9:00 to 19:00)
19. Q: Is there a canteen for students in HLU?
A: Yes. We have three public canteens and one canteen for international students. You need to apply for a meal card first. You could apply it at Card Services on the first floor of the Canteen A. (Breakfast 6:30 to 8:30, Lunch 10:30 to 12:30 and Dinner 15:30 to 18:30). You can choose many kinds of delicious food such as Chinese food, Korean food and Western food.
20 Q: Is there a post office near the school?
A: There are post offices in the Zone A and Zone C. It is very convenient for international students to post letters and postal parcels. In addition, every Monday, the International Post Office’s shuttle bus will send the letters and postal parcels of the international students directly to the General Service Desk of the International Students of Zone It is very convenient.
21 Q: Is there a bank that can exchange foreign currency near the school?
A: The bank which can exchanges currency near the school is a branch bank of the Bank of China. Address: No. 7 Xuefu Road. (Opposite the main entrance of Harbin University of Science and Technology, 10 minutes’ walk from Heilongjiang University) It can handle USD, JPY cash exchange business, remittance business, cash business, etc., but it cannot handle traveler’s cheque business. You can handle that to the Heilongjiang Branch of Bank of China, Address: 19 Hongjun Street, Harbin.
22. Q: Can short-term classmates choose apartment in Zone A or Zone C?
A: Yes, but you need to book in advance.

25. Q: How can I access the Internet in dormitory?
A: Students must go to the “Unicom Service Hall” in the Comprehensive Building to apply for broadband service. Unicom provides free network cable, but the network card must be purchased by your own.
26. Q: Can long-term students stay in dormitory during the winter/ summer vacation?
A: Yes. But it is based on the specific circumstances. In order to conserve energy, HLU may rearrange the apartment.
27. Q: Can students apply for living off campus?
A: Yes. Students could apply for off-campus residence if they have special reasons, but they must perform relevant procedures.
